Manchester United lifted the Community Shield after beating Chelsea 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out at Wembley.
Ryan Giggs gave the Premiership champions the lead on 35 minutes, but Chelsea’s new signing Florent Malouda levelled just before the break when he shrugged off a challenge from Rio Ferdinand to finish neatly. The game finished 0-0 at full-time and with no extra time scheduled to be played, it was time for penalties.
United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar produced a hat-trick of penalty saves from Claudio Pizarro, Frank Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips, while Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney all scored from the spot to give Sir Alex Ferguson’s side their first silverware of the season.
Reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid have launched a massive £27million double bid for Chelsea duo Arjen Robben and Michael Ballack.

Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz will spent the whole of next season on loan at Sevilla.
Boulahrouz did not travel with the rest of the Chelsea squad on the pre-season trip to Los Angeles and will now look for a better season in La Liga.
